Tile Abrasion Experiment Test

 Tile Abrasion Test

◼️ Introduction:

Tile Abrasion testing machine meets the essential requirment of IS: 1237. This is for testing the resistance to water and abrasion of cement concrete flooring tiles. Suitable for Operating on 220 volts, 50 cycle, single phase, A.C. supply.

◼️ Description:

The tile abrasion testing machine consist of a rotating disc, rotating on a shaft concrete to a reduction gear box which coupled to an electric motor. Over the rotating disc. The grinding path along with the rotating disc revolves disc is fixed firmly the grinding path. The grinding path along with the rotating disc is fixed firmly the grinding path. The grinding path along with the rotating disc revolves at a rate of 30 +/- 1 revolution per minute. The rotating disc and the grinding path are closed by a circular tray.

A specimen holding attachment is firmly fixed with the main fram. The specimen is kept in position by clamp and is loaded by a self aligning loading platen which is attached to a in position by clamp and is loaded by a self aligning loading platen which is attached to a lever having a ratio 1:4. A weight of 7.5 kg on the longer of lever gives a resultant load of 30 kg on the specimen through the loading path. The maximum variation of load being 1%. A revolution counter is fixed on the machine which will record the number of revolution counter is fixed on the machine which will record the number of revolution of the grainding path. A stud is fixed on the revolution counter. Knob on the revolution counter is for setting the counter to 7 ero position. After the test is completed. A automatic stroke counter is fixed on the unit which will stop the machine after 22 revolutions. A counter balance weight is provided for initial balancing of the lever arm. The whole assembly firmly fixed on a sturdy angle iron frame four leveling screws are provided for initially leveling the machine.

◼️ Setting up and procedure:

After receiving the instrument unpacked it carefully, tally equipment with the list given in the instructions and see that nothing is thrown out, clean all parts. Keep tha machine on a level surface and firmly fix it with foundation batts. Adjust the counter balance weight so that the specimen holder and clamp it by operating the capstan of the loading platen with the help of the tommy pin. Keep the weight on the hanger of the lever Connect the loads to 220 volts, 50 cycles A.C supply. Set the counter at zero . Initially the position of the cam should be exactly opposite to that of revolution counter. The machine is ready for operating.

◼️Test specimen:

The test specimen shall be square in shape and of size 70.6×70.6 mm. The maximum variation in the specimen size can can be upto on the base of the thickness measuring holder with it's wearing surface uppermost and side in Contact with the shoulders. Set up the dail gauge firmly so that the plunger rests on the surface of the specimen and take the reading of the dial gauge. The difference between reading before and after the test gives the amount of wear of the specimen. Strew grinding path of abrasion testing machine evenly with 20 GM's of abrasion powder.

◼️ Abrasion powder:

The Abrasion should have an aluminium oxide content of not less than 95% by weight. The grains shall be retained on I:S test sieve 20. The combined content at berger grains reinforced on I:S test sieve 25 and smaller grains whose fineness is not limited. Fix the specimen in the holding denic with the surface to be ground facing the grainding path and apply the load of 30kg. A pointer is fitted on the rest knob which is to be put on the index mark before the machine is operated. After the completion of 22 revolutions a micro switch will come into action and will stop the machine for resetting ratate the knob anticlockwise and bring the pointer to be index mark. Never mishandle the reset knob of try the setting will be distributed. After every 22 revolution stop the disc, remove the abrade tile powder from the disc and apply fresh abrasion powder in quantities of 20 gms, each time after 220 turn the specimen and the abrasive powder dry throught the test duration. After the abrasive is over re - weight the specimen to the nearest o.1 gm. Placed it in the thickness measuring holder and take the reading of the dial gauge with the same position and setting of the dial gauge as for the measurement before abrasion.
